Free US environmental compliance data — every EPA-regulated facility and its compliance record — API + MCP, no key. Every facility in EPA's Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO) system, in plain JSON for people and AI agents: one unified profile per facility across the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, hazardous waste (RCRA), Toxics Release Inventory, and Greenhouse Gas programs. Ask which facilities in a county are currently in violation, what a facility's inspection and penalty history looks like, or how a state's facilities stack up, and get plain JSON back. No key, no signup.
Look up a county
Counties are each facility's physical county (EPA/FRS FIPS) with official Census county names, and match case-insensitively. A county summary is a screening view of an area — it is not a verdict on a specific property.

The six EPA programs unified here — Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, Safe Drinking Water Act, RCRA, Toxics Release Inventory, Greenhouse Gas — with facility and violation counts for each

The data
Facilities: every US facility with an EPA Facility Registry Service (FRS) Registry ID in ECHO — 3,214,575 facilities in the October 31, 2026 exporter vintage, 1.69 million of them flagged active by EPA.
One profile per facility: permits, inspections, violations, enforcement actions, and penalties unified across six programs — CAA (air), CWA/NPDES (water), SDWA (drinking water), RCRA (hazardous waste), TRI (toxic releases), and GHG (greenhouse gas).
Current violations: about 76,000 facilities currently carry a violation status in ECHO, about 21,000 of them significant violations.
Summaries: county and state roll-ups — facility counts, active counts, inspections, formal enforcement actions, penalties, and facilities in violation — keyed on each facility's physical county FIPS with official Census county names.
Refresh: monthly, from EPA's ECHO Exporter bulk file (EPA posts it weekly).
Not included: 18,887 ECHO records carry no Registry ID, so they have no stable identity to look up; they are excluded and the count is published in /v1/status.
What you can ask
“Which facilities in Cook County, Illinois are currently in significant violation?”
“Look up the facility with Registry ID 110001227299 — what is its compliance history?”
“How many RCRA facilities in Texas have been penalized, and for how much in total?”
“Summarize facility compliance in Illinois, county by county.”
“Which air-permit (CAA) facilities near ZIP 606 are in violation right now?”
Good for environmental due-diligence screening, compliance monitoring, lenders and insurers screening properties, local reporters, researchers, and AI agents that need real compliance data instead of guesses. This is screening data: it is not a Phase I Environmental Site Assessment and does not substitute for one — it has no historical sources, no site visit, and no environmental professional's opinion. ECHO data is partly self-reported by facilities, and states report on their own schedules, so recent activity may be underreported.
Where the data comes from
All data comes from EPA's Enforcement and Compliance History Online (ECHO) system, via the ECHO Exporter bulk download — the same file behind ECHO's own facility reports, October 31, 2026 vintage. EPA data only: if ECHO doesn't publish it, Facility Compliance doesn't invent it. The data vintage and last refresh are shown in /v1/status. Data refreshes monthly.
Facility identity comes from the Facility Registry Service and can be messy — one site may appear under several Registry IDs. Counties are physical locations from FRS coordinates and FIPS codes, not mailing addresses.
